winning people over
Title I math
I ran around an elementary school today pushing a cart of math manipulatives. It was kind of fun. Lunch wasn't until 12:50 and I hardly noticed. I helped third graders work on their rounding, fourth graders figure out how to show multiples, kindergartners count up to 30 and much more! This teacher usually leaves me projects to do for her during her planning time but she didn't so I chatted up some first grade teachers nearby and worked on some di-cutting for them. Such a simple offer had them all asking for my card. :) But honestly, I just hate sitting around with spare time when I know the people around me have so much to do. Of course I"ll cut out shapes for them! It is so easy but takes forever and they have far more important things to worry about.
Back again tomorrow.

another year
This year has started out slowly. I've decided I can no longer work at my once-favorite school as I gave them four (if you include student teaching) years of hard work and they hired someone else for a position I was perfect for. I know the curriculum, the team and the kids but I'm not young and pretty. I'm definitely going to miss those kiddos.
So I'm spreading the love. After working two days at a school I've rarely been to, I have my name being passed around and requests coming in. The principal is new this year and has already seen me teach twice. (the new principal at my once-favorite school never came by).
I just went back and read some of my entries and I want to continue documenting my adventures. Hopefully I'll have some more gems soon.
First grade tomorrow!

Ummm, I'm not stupid
Second grade
Little Girl 1 (LG1) returns from the bathroom and excitedly tells LG2 that one of their friends is in the bathroom. LG2 immediately runs for the pass.
Me: Um, uh-huh. LG2, you are not going to the bathroom right now.
LG2: But I really have to go!
Me: Because you're friend is in there? No way. You have to wait at least 5 minutes.
LG1: But [our friend] won't wait 5 minutes! I'm going to go tell her!
She actually thought it would be ok to go let her friend know she'll have to wait longer for LG2. AND they tried to act innocent like I didn't hear the plan.

Me: Miss Fxxxxx
Kid1: I'm going to call you Miss F
Kid 2: I'm going to call you M
Kid 3 from the back of the line: I'm going to call you Justin Bieber!

behavior
First Grade:
I was handed a behavior chart by a first grader today. He was expected to: keep his hands and feet to himself, sit up, be quiet, listen to directions, stay on task and finish his work. He certainly wasn't a model student but I couldn't decide how to answer those questions. How much of his behavior was him being a pill and how much of it was him being a first grader?
Overall, today was another good day.
